I turned 33 on January 3rd which I’d like to think of as a second Golden Birthday. The energy felt special, and so I compiled a list of all the things I know to be true upon my 33rd rotation around the sun.
Supporting local businesses is good karma.
You cannot expect to heal from the things you aren’t willing to speak up about.
If you wake up and immediately start doom-scrolling, it will negatively impact your whole day.
You’ll never regret a time you chose to not drink.
Unless you’re severely lactose intolerant, alternative milks are total baloney.
Your body is a vessel; it is not a commodity.
Vaping is very embarrassing.
Reading for even 10 minutes holds the ability to change your whole attitude.
Get off your phone and bake some cookies.
If you’re interested in a topic, study it for an hour. It can only help you.
Road rage has never helped anyone, and it won’t get you to your destination faster.
Writing by hand will never go out of style.
Sharpen your knives.
Floss your teeth.
You’re never too old for a snuggly stuffed animal.
Alcohol is a vehicle that only creates distance from yourself.
Boredom is a gift.
Spread peanut butter & preserves on your saltine crackers.
Outfit repeating is cool. It makes you recognizable. It gives you personality.
Long live physical party invitations.
Rating books on a numeric scale is an oversimplification of literature.
We don’t have to be perfect in our sustainability practices, but we should at least try a little.
Get the massage. Our bodies hold on to stress more than we realize.
If you need laughter, invite your friends over for a game night.
Do not fucking drink Celcius. Seriously. Do not.
Call your loved ones often.
Listen to understand – not to respond.
Go outside.
Making your bed right after you wake up is a great way to soothe anxiety & depression.
Clean up your to-be-read list once a year (if you keep track of one to begin with).
It’s not always all about you.
Consume books, movies, music, any form of art that’s out of your comfort zone. Interesting things will begin to happen.
Order the dessert.
